Who we are and what we do

The Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre is an incorporated, non-profit organization operated by women, for women. The Centre provides a warm atmosphere where women can meet and share information, skills and experiences.

The Women’s Centre receives funding and support on the Territorial level from the Women’s Directorate (YTG) plus project funding from numerous sources, as well as donations and memberships from individuals in the community. The Centre also organizes fundraisers throughout the year.

We are always looking for interested women to participate on our Coordinating Collective who have a keen sense of women's issues.  Anyone interested can call or email us at the contact info. indicated already on the website.

The Women’s Centre provides:

   

 

  • A Gathering Place

  • Information on issues of interest and concern to women.

  • Library with resources such as self help books, magazines, government documents, videos, children’s books and much more!

  • Referrals to various service agencies.

  • Advocacy for women who need help accessing services and assessing their options.

  • Education on women’s issues

  • Lay Counseling

  • Programs to provide information and meet emotional, physical and social needs of women in the community.

  • Lobbying for changes to promote equality for women

  • Research on women’s issues.

  • Workshops and support groups for women.

  • Activities such as Woman Assault Prevention Month (November), Sexual Assault Prevention Month (May), December 6 th Memorial, International Women’s Day (March 8 th) and Take Back the Night March.

  • Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP)
    ~called Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies is a supportive and informative program for pregnant women and new mothers.

  • Rural Pregnant Moms Program provides free on site suites for short-term stay for women traveling to Whitehorse to have their baby.
